FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Straight answers about how protection works, and where it ends.

Cooldowns

What is revenge trading?

The urge to win money back straight after a loss, by opening the next trade too fast and too big. Willpower rarely holds in that moment, which is why RevenShield uses a pause instead of a reminder.

Can I end a cooldown early?

No. There is no unlock button, password or code, and rules cannot be changed while an account is paused. The cooldown ends by itself at the time shown.

How long does a cooldown last?

As long as you chose for that rule: a preset length, your own length, or until your next trading day starts. The end time is fixed when the cooldown starts and is never extended.

What if my computer is offline when the cooldown ends?

Access still returns at the end time. Your browser keeps the end time and lifts the pause by itself, without needing to reach our server.

What if RevenShield's server cannot be reached during a cooldown?

A cooldown your browser already knows about stays in place until its own end time. A server that cannot be reached is never treated as “no cooldown”.

Rules

Which rules can I set?

A daily loss limit, a number of losing trades in a row, and a maximum number of trades per day. Each can be on or off, and each has its own cooldown length.

Why did my rule change not apply at once?

A stricter rule applies immediately. A looser one (switching a rule off, a higher limit, a shorter cooldown) waits until your next trading day, so a limit cannot be loosened in the heat of the moment.

When does my trading day reset?

At the hour you choose, midnight by default, in your own time zone. Summer and winter time are followed automatically. A trade belongs to the day it was closed.

Do floating losses on open positions count?

No. Only closed trades count towards your limits. If your prop firm counts open positions, keep your own limit lower than the firm's.

Does a break-even trade end a losing streak?

No. A trade that closes at exactly zero is skipped. A winning trade, a cooldown or a new trading day starts the count again.

Platforms and your data

Which platforms does RevenShield work with?

cTrader today, demo and live, through cTrader's official Open API (read-only). Match-Trader is in development and will open once access is confirmed with the platform. TradeLocker, MetaTrader 5, Binance and OKX are planned.

Will RevenShield ever trade on my account?

Never. It only reads your results. It never places, changes or closes an order.

Will RevenShield ask for my trading password?

Not for cTrader: you sign in on cTrader's own page, and we never see your password. For platforms without such a page (Match-Trader, in development), you would type your platform email and password once: it is used for that one sign-in and never stored; RevenShield keeps only the sign-in itself, encrypted, to read your closed trades.

Can I connect several accounts or logins?

Yes. You can connect several logins per platform, and every trading account has its own rules and cooldowns.

I opened a new cTrader account. Why is it missing?

cTrader only shares the accounts you tick on its permission page. Open Connections, choose “Add or refresh a cTrader ID” and tick the new account.

Browsers and devices

Does a cooldown stop me placing orders?

In the browsers you protect, the paused account's trading pages show the cooldown screen instead. Your broker is not contacted, so other devices, unprotected browsers and broker apps are not blocked.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome and Microsoft Edge, through the RevenShield extension. Firefox is planned.

Does a pause on one account block my other accounts?

No. A pause closes only the trading site of its own platform, and on cTrader Web only the paused account is covered: you can switch to another account and keep trading it.

Can I close my open positions during a cooldown?

Not from a protected browser. Stop-loss and take-profit orders you placed before keep working, so set them before you trade.

iPhone (planned)

Is there an iPhone app?

Not yet. It is planned: during a cooldown it will put a pause screen over the trading apps you choose, using Apple's Screen Time, and cover the locked account's page in Safari the way it does on your computer. Everything in this section describes the plan and may change before release.

Why will I have to choose my trading apps myself?

Apple does not let any app block other apps by name. You pick them once in Apple's own list; RevenShield suggests which ones for the platforms you connected, asks again when you connect a new platform, and lets you add any other app you want paused.

Will a pause cover only the locked account on my iPhone?

No. Apple can only pause a whole app, so the trading app is paused while any account linked to it is in a cooldown. Your other accounts stay usable on your computer, where only the paused account is covered.

What if I have open positions when a cooldown starts?

On your computer the paused account is covered at once; stop-loss and take-profit orders keep working. On your iPhone the trading app will not be paused while positions you opened before the cooldown are still open, so you can close them. Once they are closed, the app is paused until the cooldown ends. A trade opened during the cooldown does not keep the app open and is recorded in your History. A position that has been open for more than 3 days does not keep the app open either.

Can I close a position in another account while one account is in a cooldown?

Yes. The trading website in Safari is covered only for the paused account, so open the platform's website, switch to the other account and close the position there. The paused account's own page stays covered: if it has a position older than 3 days, that position cannot be closed from your phone or computer until the cooldown ends. Stop-loss and take-profit orders you placed earlier keep working at your broker.

What if I delete the app or switch off its Screen Time access?

Your iPhone is then no longer protected, and Apple always lets you do that. The cooldown on your account is not affected: it keeps its end time, your other devices stay blocked, and the Devices page shows the iPhone as Protection lost. If you reinstall the app, it gets the same cooldown with the time left.

Locks and removing RevenShield

What levels of protection are there?

You choose how strong the lock is. Each level adds to the one before:

  1. Standard (available today): the RevenShield extension in Chrome or Edge. During a cooldown it shows the cooldown screen on the paused account's trading site. You can remove it at any time, like any extension.
  2. Lockdown mode (Windows, in testing): adds the RevenShield helper to your PC. During a cooldown it closes browsers without a working extension, other browsers and the cTrader desktop app. It always blocks private, guest and new-profile windows. Turning it off takes a 6-hour wait.
  3. Lockdown with locked extension (planned): once RevenShield is in the Chrome Web Store and Edge Add-ons, Lockdown will also tell Chrome and Edge to keep the extension installed. The browser then hides its Remove and Turn off buttons and shows “Installed by your organization”.

Lockdown is never switched on for you. After you connect a browser on a Windows PC, RevenShield offers it once, and "No thanks" keeps the extension alone. If you choose it, you first read a statement of everything it does and tick a box yourself (it is never ticked for you), then Windows asks for administrator approval.

How do I set up Lockdown mode?

On the Windows PC you want to protect:

  1. Connect a browser first. Right after that, choose Set up Lockdown. Or open the Devices page later and choose Set up Lockdown on a PC.
  2. Read the statement of what Lockdown does, tick the box and choose I agree. RevenShield keeps a record of when you agreed and to which version of the statement.
  3. Run the RevenShield installer. Windows asks for administrator approval.
  4. The installer shows a code and opens a RevenShield page. Check that the page shows the same code and choose Approve this PC. There is no key to copy.
  5. Lockdown is on. The Devices page shows the PC with Lockdown on.

If an approval page shows a code you don't recognise, choose "This was not me: refuse". Each code works once, for 10 minutes. While RevenShield is in testing the installer is a command for developers; a downloadable installer comes before launch.

Does Lockdown affect other people who use my PC?

Yes. The browser settings apply to every Windows account on the PC, and during your cooldowns the helper closes unprotected browsers in every signed-in account. Only set it up on a PC you're allowed to change, and tell the other people who use it. On a work or school PC, ask for permission first.

When can the extension not be removed?

Only when you have chosen Lockdown and the locked-extension level is available (planned). In every other case you can remove it:

  1. Standard, no cooldown: remove it freely.
  2. Standard, during a cooldown: the browser lets you remove it, because browsers never let an extension protect itself. That browser is then unprotected, and the Devices page shows it.
  3. Lockdown, during a cooldown: you can remove it, but the helper closes that browser within seconds, because it has no working extension.
  4. Lockdown with locked extension: the Remove and Turn off buttons are hidden until you turn Lockdown off.

Even then there is always a way out: turning Lockdown off, explained below.

Does removing the extension end a cooldown?

No. Cooldowns are started and timed by RevenShield's server, which reads your closed trades whether or not your browser is open. Removing the extension only stops the cooldown being shown in that browser. The cooldown still ends at its fixed time.

Why would anyone want a lock they can't remove quickly?

Because the urge to get around a cooldown is strongest right after a loss, and passes within hours. A lock that can be removed in two clicks loses to that urge. A 6-hour way out doesn't, but it still leaves the final decision to you, on a calmer day.

Does Lockdown give RevenShield more control over my PC than I have?

No. You decide to install it, Windows asks for your approval, and you can always turn it off with the 6-hour wait. Lockdown only changes a few Chrome and Edge settings (private and guest windows, new profiles, keeping the extension installed) and closes browsers and trading apps during a cooldown. It does not read your files, see your passwords, watch what you type or trade for you. The settings are put back as they were when you turn it off.

How do I remove the extension?

If you don't use Lockdown:

  1. Chrome: open chrome://extensions, find RevenShield and click Remove. Or right-click the RevenShield icon next to the address bar and choose Remove from Chrome.
  2. Edge: open edge://extensions, find RevenShield and click Remove. Or right-click the RevenShield icon and choose Remove from Microsoft Edge.
  3. Optional: on the Devices page, remove that browser from your devices. This isn't possible during a cooldown.

If you use Lockdown, turn it off first (next question). Removing the extension doesn't delete your RevenShield account or disconnect your trading platforms.

How do I turn off Lockdown and remove everything?

Wait until no cooldown is running, then:

  1. Open RevenShield Lockdown from the Windows Start menu and click Turn off Lockdown.
  2. A 6-hour wait starts. You can cancel it at any time. The Devices page shows when it ends.
  3. If a cooldown is running when the 6 hours are up, the wait continues until that cooldown ends.
  4. When the wait is over, the helper puts the browser settings back as they were and stops closing programs. If the extension was locked, Remove and Turn off come back after you restart the browser.
  5. Click Remove from this PC in the RevenShield Lockdown window (or uninstall RevenShield Lockdown in Windows Settings > Apps), then remove the extension (see “How do I remove the extension?”).

Turning Lockdown off is refused while a cooldown is running. A wait that was started can't be shortened, not even by us. That's what makes it work.

How do I leave RevenShield completely?

Remove the extension (and Lockdown, if you use it), then disconnect your platforms on the Connections page and delete your account in Settings. You can delete your account or cancel at any time. That's separate from the lock on your PC.

Account and pricing

How much does it cost?

RevenShield is in early access and nothing can be bought yet. The planned prices are on the Pricing page.

Is RevenShield financial advice?

No. It is a self-discipline tool. Your trading decisions, and their results, remain yours.
